Understanding Taxonomies

Hierarchical (Category)

Behaves like a folder structure. Terms can have parents and children. Best for broad grouping like "Genre" or "Department".

Non-Hierarchical (Tag)

Behaves like labels or keywords. Free-form entry. Best for specific descriptors like "Ingredients" or "Colors".

Important: Flush Permalinks

Just like with Post Types, if you visit the archive page for a new taxonomy (e.g. /genre/sci-fi) and see a 404, go to Settings > Permalinks and hit Save.
